HISTORY

As part of Stanford's ongoing deep commitment to undergraduate education, the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) began to fund the Psychology One Program in 2002, envisioning a flagship course for the Psychology Department and for the university. Because of psychology's unique focus on who we are and how we think, feel, and act as human beings, VPUE saw Psychology One as an important course in any undergraduate's career. Here are a few milestones:

Jazmin Quill
​With the encouragement of then-chair Mark Lepper, Founding Director James Gross obtained funding from the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education for a large lecture course grant. This enabled James to recruit Founding Co-Director Jazmin Quill and together, they launched the Psychology One Program.

2003
The Psychology One Program reveals a new vision for the Psych One Course with enhanced teaching training for graduate Teaching Fellows.

Kelly McGonigal
Psych One TF Kelly McGonigal is awarded the Gores Award, Stanford University’s highest teaching award for her service in Psych One.

Founding Director James Gross is named the Rachford and Carlota A. Harris University Fellow in Undergraduate Education.

Psych One Professor Benoit Monin receives the Dean's Award for Distinguished Teaching.

Founding Co-Director Jazmin Quill is awarded the Dinkelspiel Award, Stanford University’s highest award for exceptional contributions to undergraduate education.

2006
Dr. Kelly McGonigal joins Psych One as Program Coordinator.


​2007
Founding Director James Gross receives the Gores Award, Stanford University’s highest teaching honor.

Psych One begins inviting undergraduate Teaching Fellows to the teaching team.


2009

Dr. Bridgette Martin Hard joins Psych One as Program Coordinator.

2012

Psych One Program Coordinator Bridgette Martin Hard is awarded the the Dinkelspiel Award, Stanford University’s highest award for exceptional contributions to undergraduate education.

Psych One holds the first ever Annual Psychology One Conference.
